Are you playing the wrong career game?

You’re probably very good at playing the career game.

Head down.

Deliver.

Climb the ladder.

For years, that approach works. You build credibility, earn more and progress upwards.

The shift

But at some point, something changes.

You realise you’re still playing…

…you’re just not sure you actually want to win this game anymore.

That realisation can feel very uncomfortable.

Because the rules that once motivated you don’t feel like yours anymore.

The next promotion or pay rise doesn’t carry the same pull it once did.

Nothing is obviously wrong...but something doesn’t feel quite right either.

What many men do next

When this happens, many men try to play harder.

Work longer hours. Push for the next promotion. Take on more responsibility.

Because that’s what's always worked before.

But pushing harder can mean running faster in a direction that no longer fits.

A different question

Instead of asking how to win the game, it can be more useful to ask:

Is this even the right game for me now?

Not necessarily a different career.

But maybe a different way of working.

A different definition of success.

A different set of priorities.

Because the version of success you were chasing in your 20s or 30s may not fit the person you’ve become now.

You don’t need to solve it today.

But it might be time to look at it a little more closely.

If you’d like to talk it through
